featuring the ken cathcart photographic collection c: 1935-1958
A proprietary and never before seen photo collection of 4800 images , documenting and creating a visual record of 20th century SF and its residents , through the eyes of San Francisco historian, mapmaker , photographer Kenneth Gwin Cathcart c: 1907-1978 .
Support documentation created by Schein and Schein to assist in the visual continuity and support the ideas , conversations and philosophy of the photographic imagery .
Additional photographic, postcard and ephemera images have been included from a variety of sources and will have additions made weekly until 2020 , as part of a greater project.
Cathcart used these photographs in support of and to create his historic maps made between 1946 and 1958 under the banner "Historic Maps" by Ken Cathcart.
7 maps exist today, for which S&S presents the photographic record here and will create re-issues of these great maps over the next few years, with a new book to explain the full context of each of these amazingly well researched maps of Old SF, Chinatown, Early buildings of the 1850's SF , California Gold County, the Bay Area, SF Volunteer Fireman and Engines & SF Cable Car design history.
The photos are here for free public viewing while still being researched and used for our needs in the creation of the re-issue maps and books for each map, thus ALL images have been uploaded and editing has NOT transpired.
ALL PHOTOS ARE FOR SALE !!
